Fantasy creatures in our ornaments and fantasy colours in our jewellery.
Mostly, at Lorie’s Glass House (as the name suggests) we create in glass. No molds are used. Every item has it’s own personality and is totally handcrafted and One of a Kind. The colours on the items range from vibrant full colours to soft opaque colours to crystal clear.
Torchwork using boro glass rod is Lorie’s specialty. Clear and coloured boro rods and over 40 years experience, are used to handcraft many animal type ornaments and lots of mythical creations. Fairies, dragons, hummingbirds, giraffes, dolphins, flamingoes, … and the list goes on. After the item is created in the flame of the torch, it is annealed in one of our kilns to make it strong. Sometimes the tiny creations are set on bases of slices of agate rocks or a miniature mountain or amethyst or rose quartz. Many are hung from fine string to fly through the air and land in windows and Christmas trees and treasure nooks across the world. Each one has a personality.
Ric also use the kilns to create tiny fused glass earrings, necklaces and other pieces of jewellery. Mostly dichroic glass is used for the out of this world sparkle that it gives. Layers and layers of glass are hand-set, hand cut then turned into jewellery. The use of beautiful rocks as bases for the torchwork ornaments has also lead to some of the rocks being set in the wirewrapping as natural works of art. Each pendant is available on one of 3 different length chains to make sure it is comfortable to wear.
We’re in a different location this year at Kempenfest. We will not be near the stage like we were last year but at the other end of the park… some call it the beginning. We’ll look forward to seeing all of our old friends and always hope to meet lots of new ones. See you at one of the best events in North America, Kempenfest-Barrie.
