The Barrie Art Club was founded in 1949, in the city of Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Over the past half century it has grown into a vibrant community resource for artists, professional or amateur, and artists-at-heart.
It is an organization that is proud of its volunteers. These members take care of the daily running of this non-profit organization, plan and implement its programs, publish a monthly newsletter, maintain the BAC gallery, and still have time to create and submit ‘works of art’ for shows held monthly in the gallery. Members may contribute a lot or a little time, and it’s always appreciated.
The BAC has an open approach to what constitutes art. Our members have the opportunity to exercise their skills in a wide variety of mediums. We offer many diverse workshops, at affordable prices, to members and non-members. Drop-ins of varied topics are also offered on a regular basis throughout the week. The potential to learn is enormous!
On location painting sessions, Plein Air, in beautiful settings are planned regularly and are increasingly well attended.
Members can take part in ‘Life Drawing’ and ‘Human Form & Portraiture’ drop-ins, involving a draped or undraped live model. During the ‘Friday Portraiture’ drop-in, participants have the option to take turns sitting for the others to draw or paint.
Still Life drop-ins are held weekly. Props and shadow boxes are available and lighting can be adjusted to get the most out of your setting.
Regularly scheduled drop-ins include: Open Studio, Watercolour, Soft Pastel, Art Journaling & Mixed Media Play, Abstract, and Acrylic. Some of our hosts will randomly open the club for an ‘Impromptu’ open studio time, outside of regular club hours.
The Barrie Art Club offers a wide range of workshops covering a variety of mediums. Instructors come from far and near to teach in our spacious well-lit, climate controlled workshop.
Each month at the members’ meeting there is always the opportunity to learn from a guest speaker (usually a practicing professional artist), and a get together afterwards to ask questions.
Members have the opportunity to sign up to be a Featured Artist or Guest Artist which run concurrently with our themed Members’ Shows. Take this opportunity to nurture your inner artist and to deepen your knowledge.
